Clothes & Toys

Navigating clothing and toys for neurodivergent children can feel overwhelming. This page offers curated recommendations designed with sensory sensitivities and unique needs in mind. Discover comfortable, tagless clothing made from soft, breathable fabrics that minimize irritation. Explore toys that promote focus, creativity, and emotional regulation, avoiding overwhelming stimuli. Find weighted blankets, noise-canceling headphones, and adaptive tools to support your child’s comfort and well-being, fostering independence and confidence.

FOOTWEAR

Like a lot of neurodivergent kids, mine struggled with wearing shoes. Particularly their “inside shoes,” which frustrated daycare staff and elementary school teachers. We had piles of unworn shoes—until we found the Stonz Cruiser Original. They’re soft and comfy and my kids wore them instantly without complaint. Worth a try maybe?

We’ve tried several boot brands, and Bogs are worth the extra money. My kids wear them eight months a year and love that they can get models with dinosaurs on them. They’re warm, waterproof, grippy, tough and best of all is the simple fact that they get worn.

UNDERGARMENTS

Thirsties Potty Training Pants offer comfort and independence for children with ASD. The soft, absorbent layers provide security against accidents, while the pull-up design promotes self-sufficiency. These pants can ease the transition to regular underwear, fostering confidence and helping your child participate more fully in daily activities.

CLOTHING

Fleece! This one is a bit more generic, but for ASD kids who may be prone to pee-accidents, fleece is your friend. It’s inherently water-resistant, doesn’t “appear” wet and dries super quickly. Pictured is one of our favourite suits from The North Face, but any fleece or micro-fleece pant is a solid investment.
